In late 2019, a small male joey was found curled up in the middle of Maria River Road, near Port Macquarie. Upon evaluation by our team, Jan (pronounced Yarn) was found to have an early-stage ocular chlamydial infection. He was anemic, severely underweight, had a distended abdomen, and was infested with worms. Despite facing numerous challenges, Jan became healthy enough to be transferred to the Joey yard at the Koala Hospital.
Unfortunately, Jan's difficult start to life means he is unlikely to survive in the wild, so he’s become a permanent resident at the Koala Hospital. Jan has a delightful nature, and our volunteers love caring for him.
