KOALA PRESERVATION SOCIETY of New South Wales

Koala Hospital Staff

Koala Hospital Staff Volunteers make it possible for the hospital to care for Koalas. Learn more about other ways you can help. The Koala Preservation Society of NSW Inc. is operated by a Management Committee consisting of President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Habitat Coordinator, Hospital Coordinator, Education and Communications Coordinator. A paid Supervisor performs all the koala treatments and oversees all volunteers. Approximately 100 volunteers work in the yards on different shifts (most volunteers only work one shift per week). There are two shifts daily, seven days a week, the first commences at 8.00.a.m. and it is their duty to replenish the leaf on the gunyahs(where the koalas sit when not up a tree) plus clean the yards and feed the koalas. This procedure is also repeated inside in the Intensive Care Units. When this is done the shift is finished. The afternoon shift commences at 3.00.p.m and it is their duty to re-fill the water in the leaf containers, water the leaf and feed the koalas. There is also a souvenir kiosk which is staffed by volunteers, two shifts per day from 8.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. and from 12.30 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. when the Hospital is then closed to visitors for the day.
